Students shall choose 1 second foreign language.

SFL Foreign Languages and Literatures discipline was authorized to offer master’s degree programs in 1985 and doctoral degree programs in 1993. A postdoctoral center was established upon the approval of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security in 2003. In 2010, the discipline was authorized as first-level to offer the doctoral degree in foreign languages and literatures. With strong teaching faculty of 20 professors and 50 associate professors, the discipline is the key discipline of SJTU 211 and 985 projects. 9 well-equipped research centers/institutions are set up in different subject fields.

 

1. Program Education Objectives

After graduation from the Translation and Interpreting program, the graduates are expected to:

  • Have deep understanding of the subject, and understand the status quo, world trends and the frontiers of academic research;
  • Be able to conduct research with academic or practical value, and show innovation in academic achievements;
  • Have a perfect command of 1 foreign language and preferably excellent command of another foreign language.

In principle, master courses should be completed within the first year.

5.Mid-term Evaluation

The mid-term evaluation of masters should be completed within the first month of the third semester. Mid-term evaluation requirements include: have proper learning attitude, pass all required courses, attain the required credits (both total credits and degree course credits) with an average credit of degree courses above 2.00, work orderly and smoothly with the dissertation.

 

6. Dissertation Proposal

Following the mid-term evaluation, the master-degree dissertation proposal should be completed before the end of the third semester in accordance with SJTU Master Program Regulations.

Students should have at least 1 paper published in official journals.
